ABOUT ME

William Boston. Foto:Cordula Giese, Berlin.

Welcome and thanks for stopping by my Web site. As a freelance journalist with more than 15 years experience at the wires, the Wall Street Journal and major US and German news magazines, I can provide your publication with writing and reporting on issues ranging from European business, politics and culture, technology and media, to transatlantic relations and the war on terror. Based in Berlin, I am available for long and short-term reporting assignments and am free to travel anywhere the story leads. Berlin is a short hop to capitals in Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, the Baltic countries or former Yugoslavia to cover the changes sweeping the region. I can provide completed features or contribute to your projects with reporting.

In 1989, as the end of Communism neared, I began working as a journalist based in Germany, gaining solid training at wires: United Press International, AFP-Extel and Reuters. In 1998, I moved to the Wall Street Journal to cover technology and media, winning an Overseas Press Club award for international business reporting as part of a team covering Vodafone’s takeover of Mannesmann and the European M&A boom. Since the fall of 2002, I have contributed regularly as a stringer to US magazines such as Time, Newsweek, Fortune, US News and World Report, and newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, International Herald Tribune, Christian Science Monitor and others.

I also have broadcasting experience, both in radio and TV, having appeared as a reporter and commentator on Reuters Television, CNBC and frequent appearances on major news programs on German television and radio.

A detailed CV and references are available upon request.
